Condensed American History Lesson.

For those that don’t know about history…… here is a condensed version…

Humans originally existed as members of small bands of nomadic hunters/gatherers. They lived on deer in the mountains during the summer and would go to the coast and live on fish and lobster in the winter.

The two most important events in all of history were:

1 The invention of beer, and
2. The invention of the wheel. The wheel was invented to get man to the beer.

These were the foundation of modern civilization and together were the catalyst for the splitting of humanity into two distinct subgroups:

1. Liberals
2. Conservatives.

Once beer was discovered, it required grain and that was the beginning of agriculture. Neither the glass bottle nor aluminum can were invented yet, so while our early humans were sitting around waiting for them to be invented, they just stayed close to the brewery. That’s how villages were formed.

Some men spent their days tracking and killing animals to barbecue at night while they were drinking beer. This was the beginning of what is known as the Conservative movement.
Other men who were weaker and less skilled at hunting learned to live off the conservatives by showing up for the nightly barbecues and doing the sewing, fetching, and hairdressing. This was the beginning of the Liberal movement.

Some of these liberal men eventually evolved into women. The rest became known as girlie-men.

Some noteworthy liberal achievements include the domestication of cats, the
invention of group therapy, group hugs, and the concept of Democratic voting to decide how to divide the meat and beer that conservatives provided.

Over the years Conservatives came to be symbolized by the largest, most powerful land animal on earth, the elephant. Liberals are symbolized by the jackass.

Modern liberals like imported beer (with lime added), but most prefer white wine or imported bottled water. They eat raw fish but like their beef well done. Sushi, tofu, and French food are standard liberal fare. Another interesting evolutionary side note: most of their women have higher testosterone levels than their men. Most social workers, personal injury attorneys, journalists, dreamers in Hollywood and group therapists are liberals. Liberals invented the designated hitter rule because it wasn’t fair to make the pitcher also bat.

Conservatives drink domestic beer. They eat red meat and still provide for their women. Conservatives are big-game hunters, rodeo cowboys, lumberjacks, construction workers, firemen, medical doctors, police officers, corporate executives, athletes, Marines, and generally anyone who works productively. Conservatives who own companies hire other conservatives who want to work for a living.

Liberals produce little or nothing. They like to govern the producers and decide what to do with the production. Liberals believe Europeans are more enlightened than Americans. That is why most of the liberals remained in Europe when conservatives were coming to America .. They crept in after the Wild West was tamed and created a business of trying to get more for nothing.

Here ends today’s lesson in world history……. It should be noted that a Liberal may have a momentary urge to angrily
respond to the above before forwarding it.

A Conservative will simply laugh and be so convinced of the absolute truth of this history that it will be forwarded immediately to other true believers and to liberals just to p… them off.

Eddie Arnold - May He Rest In Peace

From I was a kid, I’ve listened to Eddie Arnold with a great deal of pleasure.  He was truly one of the best performers in country music.

Back before he was big, he was playing at a theater in California; and needed a second guitar.  My dad, George Morgan, played backup for him; and the audience kept calling him back for encore after encore, until he and the band simply couldn’t play anymore.  Who knew?

If Only?

If only…
Seems like I say that a lot, nowadays.  I guess it comes with gettin’ as old as I am.  After all, as I’ve said before, I’m two weeks older’n dirt.

I’m gonna try to get some of the ‘if onlies’ out of my system.  Basically, they’re bad decisions that I’ve made.  It’s true that ‘Hindsight is 20/20.’.

If only I had dumped my second wife when she gave me a choice between her and my music saying that I ‘met too many women’ when I was singing.  That was in 1970; and by 1979, she was gone and so was my musical career.

If only I had made the right choices after we split up.  Instead of focusing on my business (and my future), I focused on the pain of my broken heart.  This led me into a serious relationship that, eventually, turned into a seriously broken relationship.  Even then, however, things were not beyond salvage…

If only I had used common sense in my financial dealings, instead of wasting money and time trying to fix the unfix-able, things would have adjusted.  I spent money that should have stayed in the business trying to make a woman happy, when I should have known that it was a hopeless task.

Now, in the twilight of my life, I find myself broke, sick, and (basically) alone because of these (and a myriad of other) bad decisions.

All the advice I can offer is this: Think!  Analyze all of your alternatives carefully!  Be especially careful where women are involved!

Clarification

I have been posting about what I call the rules of life.  Actually, they aren’t rules, because rules can be broken.  No, these are immutable facts.  You may ignore them, just as you probably ignore many other things; but that does not change them or the way that they affect you.  The facts of life do not go away.  They exist; and the effect upon you and your life depends largely upon how you interact with (and within) them.

These are the facts of life:
Life is not fair
No one is exempt from death
Physics rules the universe and biology rules life
The universe does not care
The only constant in life is change
There is always a choice
Wishing never makes it so
A person can’t exceed their limits
A person is responsible for their own happiness
It is impossible to change the character of another

Again, I must give credit where it is due.  The facts of life are borrowed from an author by the pen name of Lazlo Zalezac, who is currently posting installments of a story titled ‘The Millionaire Next Door’, which is based upon these and other facts.  I am of the opinion that he is a wise man…

Merry Christmas!

However, I think I’d rather be having a Feliz Navidad…

An Aside To The Rules

There is a TV ad running that strongly suggests that one should choose one’s mate by his/her credit score.  Anyone who is tempted to take that advice should also be aware of the Golden Rule: “He/she who has the gold makes the rules.”.  A good prenuptial agreement is also to be considered.

Implementing The Rules Of Life

I read quite a bit since my heart attack; and, sometimes, I pick up things that make a lot of sense.  “If it harms none, do it.  Protect the weak from the strong.” is one such thing.  Think about it…

Rule # 1: You are responsible for your own happiness.  But what makes you truly happy?

You might think you are happy right now; and you may be mostly right.  However, if you look closely, are there doubts?  Are there things that you wish you had done that you could have done?  Are there things on your conscience that surface now and then?  Remember the quote at the start of this post.  Predicate your actions on that and you should have no problems with your conscience.

Only you can decide what makes you genuinely happy.  Rule # 1 is so important that making that decision is the first thing you must do.

Remember, “If it harms none, do it.  Protect the weak from the strong.” .

Decide what makes you happy, then watch for the next Rule of Life…

“If it harms none, do it.  Protect the weak from the strong.”  is a direct quote from Lazlo Zalezac, one of the many fine authors at Stories On Line; and it does make a great deal of sense.

Rules Of Life

I have found that there some rules involved in living.  If you follow them, you will find your life changing for the better; and you will prosper (sometimes, in spite of yourself).

Rules:

  1. You are responsible for your own happiness.
  2. You can change yourself; but you cannot change someone else.
  3. Life is not necessarily fair.
  4. You can either keep your mouth shut and let people think you are a fool, or open it and confirm it.
  5. You can learn something from any situation or person.
  6. There is more than one kind of love…don’t get them mixed up.
  7. A business is a business if it is treated and run like one.  Otherwise, it is a hobby.
  8. Kindness is self-rewarding.
  9. Stress can distract you from the things you need to do.
  10. Always try to learn something each day.

Dangerous Bacteria?

Perhaps one of the most dangerous bacteria in the world afflicts about one-third of Americans.  It has been linked to gastric lymphoma and adenocarcinoma.  The most common symptom of Helicobacter Pylori infection is what the TV calls GERD, or Gastric Esophageal Reflux Disease.

What many people do not know; and, for whatever reason, the medical profession and the government aren’t telling is that it may also be linked to several other conditions.  When you are asleep, the acid reflux frequently boils up into your throat and mouth.  Imagine the effect that stomach acid can have on your teeth and gums, which are unprotected from it.  Also consider that small amounts of that same acid will inevitably be inhaled, affecting your bronchial tree and your lungs.

There is also the possibility that the H. Pylori infection can become systemic, meaning that the bacteria may be found many other places in the body.  It can cause many problems that simply should not happen.

H. Pylori infection is far too invasive and dangerous to be tolerated; so why do the government and the medical profession treat it as if it was no worse that the common cold?  Why is there apparently no push to create a vaccine for a dangerous bacteria that affects about one-third of the population?  Both are good questions; and I wish I had the answers to them.  I suspect that the admitted fact that many, if not most, doctors have economic relationships with the drug companies may have a bearing.  Even if that is not directly the cause, think of the economic damage to the drug companies and the distribution chain if the ‘acid controller’ market went away or was significantly reduced.

We already know how deeply Madison Avenue is involved in the medical profession and the drug industry.  Is it so hard to believe that something like H. Pylori could be getting downplayed for monetary gain?

This bacterium generates a large amount of revenue for doctors, dentists, drug companies, clinics and hospitals.  Why would they want it to go away?

If you have acid reflux or too-frequent heartburn, see your doctor and demand to be tested for H. Pylori.  If you have it, do not treat it with ‘acid controllers’ or antacids!  Insist that your doctor give you the antibiotic treatment to eliminate it, completely.  You just might save your teeth, your lungs, or even your life!

Today Is Pearl Harbor Day

Have you stopped for a moment to appreciate the brave men and women who gave up their lives, limbs, and, sometimes, their future health and welfare so that you don’t speak Japanese or German, today?

Many thousands died during WW II, even more lost limbs or were otherwise crippled.  There were those who came home with diseases of many different kinds, some of which were incurable.  Many came home to an empty house, where they had left a wife.  Some came home to no home and/or no job.

Our veterans have been largely unappreciated, especially since World War II.  The Vietnam veterans were probably the worst case; because the American Democratic Party had sided with the Communists in that war.  As a result, returning military were called ‘baby killers’ and other epithets and even spat upon.  Only the ones such as John Kerry were treated with any respect.  If you lied to Congress and the people of this country in order to support the Communists, you were a war hero.  Otherwise, you were a ‘baby killer’ or some other kind of undesirable.

This country has (and has always had) the finest and most effective military in the world.  Our fighting spirit is only matched by our compassion and our knowledgeable use of our unrivaled technology.  I urge you:  say “Thank you!” to a veteran or member of the military, today.  They stand for your freedom!
